What our garage floor coating work covers
We turn a suitable concrete garage floor into a finished surface for the way the room is used. The job starts with the floor itself: its size, condition, existing coatings and connection to door thresholds, steps or other included details. We define the preparation and finish before work begins. If the garage also serves as a hobby room, gym or workshop, we consider that use alongside parking and storage when planning the coating.
- Single and double garage concrete floors.
- Preparation of suitable new or existing concrete.
- Removal of unsuitable floor paint and included surface repairs.
- Solid-colour or decorative flake finishes with the specified protective coating.
Preparing the garage concrete properly
We check for worn paint, oil marks, loose material, cracks and moisture concerns, then prepare the concrete for the selected system. Mechanical preparation can include grinding to remove weak surface material or unsuitable coatings, followed by thorough vacuum cleaning. Included repairs are completed before the coating stages. We also agree the treatment of joints and thresholds. The aim is a clean, sound foundation; coating over loose paint or unresolved contamination does not provide that foundation.

Applying primer, colour and a flake finish
We apply the coating build specified in the quote, following the chosen system’s mixing and recoating requirements. That can include a compatible primer, coloured base layer, decorative flakes and protective topcoat. We work carefully around the included edges, posts and doorway transitions. For a solid-colour floor, the colour layer provides a more uniform appearance; for a flake floor, the selected chip blend and coverage create the pattern. Texture, sunlight exposure and the topcoat are considered together.
Our garage epoxy flooring process
We organise the installation so the garage is ready for preparation and stays clear during the required curing period. The written scope identifies what we will do and how the work fits around access to the home.
- Assessment and quote: inspect the concrete, measure the floor and agree preparation, repairs and finish.
- Preparation: clear the agreed work area, prepare the slab, carry out included repairs and remove surface dust.
- Application: complete the specified primer, coating, flake and topcoat stages as applicable.
- Final review and handover: check the completed surface and explain parking, access and cleaning requirements.
When to walk, park and move storage back
We provide return-to-use guidance for the system installed in your garage. Walking, moving heavy storage and parking a vehicle may require different waiting periods. Temperature and site conditions can affect curing, so a surface that feels dry should not be treated as ready for tyres or equipment. We explain how to keep the floor protected during this period and how to clean it once it is in use, including suitable products and care around heavy or sharp items.
Garage painting and flooring in one project
We can also include garage walls, ceilings, doors and trim within a wider painting scope. Planning the paintwork and floor coating together helps organise preparation, protection and the order of work. Tell us your Melbourne suburb or Victorian town, the garage dimensions and what you want to change. Call 0423 337 290 for a quote covering the floor work and any associated painting.
Your questions, answered
How much does a double garage epoxy floor cost?
The total depends on measured area, preparation, old-coating removal, repairs, the selected finish and access. Pro Painting quotes the actual scope rather than publishing one price for every double garage.
When can I park on the finished garage floor?
Vehicle return time depends on the specified system and site conditions. Ask for separate walking, vehicle and full-use guidance in the handover instructions, and follow the agreed schedule.
Will an epoxy floor hide all cracks and uneven concrete?
A coating does not automatically level a slab or stop movement. Repairs and any levelling work need to be assessed and included separately in the scope. Some existing features may remain visible.
Can I choose a flake finish for my garage?
Discuss the available flake blends, samples, texture and topcoat as part of the quote.
Can you coat a garage floor that already has old paint?
We assess the existing paint and concrete before specifying preparation. Unsound or incompatible coatings need removal so the new system is applied to a suitable prepared surface. The quote identifies the coating-removal and repair work included.
